The History

So, why Smokey’s Auto Service you ask? Where and why did the name Smokey come from? Many years ago Darrin was bit with the racing bug. When he was in his early teens he was racing go-karts and working on multiple types of race cars for many different drivers.

Having also followed NASCAR racing he was given the nickname “Smokey” by a close friend, Lloyd Loveridge, who said Darrin reminded him of a long time NASCAR mechanic and crew chief Smokey Yunick from Dayonta Beach.

From that day on Darrin has been known as Smokey. Even to this day when Darrin is at a racetrack spectating or helping work on a car, friends and drivers still only know him as Smokey. Some people don’t even know his real name!
